EU and File Sharing
It’s good to know that there is still protection for the basic civil rights in this ongoing useless war (useless because it’s already clear what the outcome will be, but it’s just too hard for record companies to let go of all that money).

Opening (rescuing) corrupt MS Word documents
I want to start off by saying that I only did this ONCE, for a student at work, so I offer no guarantees. But it might help some people stranded out there. I also don’t know if this applies to other Office documents or just to Word. Other than that, you have nothing to lose anyway ![]()
So… a really simple method, although slightly time consuming if you need to download the tools, is just try and open the document with OpenOffice. It would seem that OpenOffice is considerably less fussy about how corrupt a document is or not (which can either be that it doesn’t “care” or it doesn’t even realise that it’s corrupt… I vote for the later). After opening it, I saved it in regular .doc compatible format, opened the new file with MS Word and Voila! No obvious issues with the recovered file, everything looked ok. Good thing I was running Ubuntu in that specific moment…
PS: This is where you get OpenOffice from
Announcement
- Although I had something different in mind when I started this, my ideas will have to be postponed until I’ll have time to build the website I wanted to. In the mean time, I am going to integrate all the stuff that I wanted into this one blog. This mainly means you will also see IT-related posts from now on. To avoid confusion I’ve created separate categories; this way, if someone would be interested in, say, only the photo stuff, they could just look at those posts and nothing else.
- I also want to add that, as I am sure regular visitors already noticed, I added some Google Ads to the page. Sorry, but quality hosting doesn’t come cheap. I hope it doesn’t bother anyone, but if anyone has different designs idea feel free to express them.
